Writing Prompt: Day 1

1.jpg

Day 1 of 365 Days of Writing Prompts: Write a new year’s resolution most rational characters would consider a negative life change…

Erin: “This year I will finally drink more and talk to my family less.”

Shannon: “I would like to spend more time in my shell.”

We decided to start with an easy one. A sentence is not much writing, but those few words are something and sometimes on days like holidays that is all anyone could ask for. Show us what your unique mind comes up with in the comments and have a happy new year.

  1. After this one I’ll be leaving our (Kate & my boyfriend Russell’s) stories in separate comments (mine tend to be a little lengthy). Again, thanks so much for posting these & thanks in advance for inspiring & reading our stories.

Kate: “I swear, by the binding promise of the sacred New Year’s Resolution, that I will kill people more often.”

Russell: “This New Year’s, I’m going to rob more banks.”

  2. mine are always rly long, but wtv, so here goes:

New year’s was never really my thing. I mean, why go to a party when you know no one there. I would end up going home after an hour. but this years going to be different. This year, I’m making a resolution.

Most people’s resolutions are losing weight or eating better, but mine is different. My new year’s resolution is… wait for it… succeed at killing myself! Yay!

Yep you heard me, by 2019 I want to be dead.

I’ve thought about this a lot, like if I want to do it, or if I want someone else to. I’m not sure yet, do you have any ideas? What’s that? Don’t do it, I’m making a mistake? Ha! I don’t think so! Don’t you think its a little late to fix me? I mean, just look at my wrists and thighs, those scars are going to stay for quite some time. Well, to late to fix me so you might as well sit back and relax. Eh, never mind, scratch that, there is no way you are going to relax, so just sit there and listen. Thank you.

Anyways… don’t tell anyone, and I mean anyone, about this. They’ll just go and make a big fuss which I don’t want. So you better not say a thing. I have enough on my conscience, one more little kill won’t bother me. ugh, don’t give me that look, is it so surprising that I would kill someone. I’d make it quick and simple though, i’m not really into elaborate plans.

Don’t expect me to tell you my plan to kill myself. i mean honestly, I’m not that dumb. You’ll just go and try and warn someone or try and stop me. I’m not telling you anymore, you obviously aren’t going to support me on this so there’s no point in continuing this conversation.

Goodbye. Hope I never see you again! Oh, and I forgot to tell you, the names Aaron.

    • ok, i actually edited this and if i post any more stories then it might make more sense if you see the updated version

I dial a random number on my phone. 865-942-0741. After two rings, someone picks up the phone.

“Don’t talk to me.” I spit out. “Just sit there and listen cause I really need this.

“No,” Oh, wasn’t expecting that, ok then.

      “OK.”

“Don’t…” they pause as if thinking. “Don’t do it?” it seemed to come out as a question.

“Wha-” I cut the voice off.

“Don’t expect me to tell you my plan to kill myself. I mean honestly, I’m not that dumb. You’ll just go and try and warn someone or try and stop me. I’m not telling you anymore, you obviously aren’t going to support me on this so there’s no point in continuing this conversation.

“Warner Orlando,” the breathless voice on the other side replied.

I hang up the phone and sigh, shaking my head. Thank god I got that out of me. I was actually surprised they didn’t talk too much through my whole rant. Well, whatever. Its not like I’ll ever talk to that person again.
