Day 258 of 365 Days of Writing Prompts: Write about a character who can teleport.
Shannon: “So you’re saying you could be anywhere in the world at this very moment and you’re choosing to stay here?” I was having a hard time believing my friend’s story.
“Well yes, but it’s not like I never go anywhere. It’s just not as much fun when you’re traveling alone,” she explained.
I shook my head, “Still, you could be on a beach right now,” I reiterated my disproval.
She gave me a soft chuckle, “Yeah, yeah, but that’s not important right now. I need you help.”
Erin: The best part of teleporting was the freedom. If I wanted to get lunch with my friend in another country in the middle of the work day that was possible. If I forgot something at home I could have it in a few seconds. Never would I ever be stranded or stuck somewhere. I never took that for granted.
Where is your character going?
Josh looks at the clock, ‘August was coming back around now.’
Rick had called their home, telling them that August’s tech was finished.
‘He’s never late,’ Josh muses to himself, wondering where his brother is.
“Boo!”
Josh jumps into the air, whipping around to see August standing there.
“How…?” Josh stares at his brother, mouth slightly agape. “How did you sneak up on me?”
“I am better at stealth than you,” August points out.
“Yeah… but-” August disappears from his vision. Josh stares at the spot.
August appears next to him.
“How are you doing that?” Josh finally gives up.
August shows him his newest addition, “The Ghostband.” The bracelet looking device is black and blue, with one of the sections having a thumb scanner on the side. “It allows me to-”
“Teleport?”
August stares in exasperation, “No.”
“Sorry. But you didn’t let me in on what Rick was making,” Josh says, crossing his arms.
“It allows me to ‘shadow’, to turn mostly invisible.” August puts his thumb to the scanner, then he disappears again. Or, mostly, as he said. Now that Josh knows what to look for, he can see August’s outline, as well as features like his eyes, nose, mouth, and where his arm crosses over his front. August takes his hand off the Ghostband. It takes a half second for him to appear again.
“…Cool,” Josh says.
“In the dark, I’m not visible at all,” August points out.
“It will look like you teleport,” Josh states. August just smirks.
