Day 328 of 365 Days of Writing Prompts: Write a story to go with the title “What I Never Told You”.
Shannon: “You did get accepted to that school. I switched out the letter four years ago. I didn’t want you to leave. I couldn’t loose you.” Her words left me feeling hollow, and all I could say was, “Get out.” I saw how much it killed her, but I couldn’t feel sorry for her. She killed my dream.
Erin: What I never told you is about a young woman finding little hidden notes from her best friend. Things from the past become clearer and clues to her disappearance start to surface.
Let the title lead the story.
“I can’t believe Finn was right, you know? He’s never right when it comes to emotions like this-”
“August?”
August stops prattling and looks at her, “Yeah?”
“…There’s something I need to tell you…”
August turns his body to face Heather. “Go ahead.”
“It’s something that I’ve been wrestling with and… I didn’t think I’d ever tell you, but here it goes.”
Heather takes a deep breath and looks at his eyes. But then she can’t and looks away, “…You weren’t the first to…”
“…What?”
Heather scowls at her inability, “I’m saying I fell for you first.” She looks up to see August’s surprised face. “I… I don’t know how… But, looking back… I was just… I was suppressing it. I know that was my hesitance to trust someone with my heart. But… maybe, it was also because…” She looks away again, this time at the floor next to the bench, “I didn’t feel worthy of it.”
August draws her chin back with his fingers. She looks up at him, asking for something he’s ready to give. “I love you, Heather. You don’t have to be worthy. I chose you and I’m not leaving of my own volition.”
