Writing Prompt: Day 254

Shannon: “What is it?”

“I don’t know,” my friend responded getting closer the glowing animal. I grabbed her arm before she could get too far. “Wait, it could hurt you.”

She turned back, “The poor thing looks scared,” she pushed her out arm toward it, tugging away from me.

“Just because it’s cute, doesn’t mean it’s not carrying a disease. Be careful,” I warned, but she was already picking the little furball up. It was glowing yellow, pink, and orange and it was memorizing. The creature looked similar to a fox, but with large ears and a bushy tail. The face was covered as it was shivering into her chest at the moment.

“I think it’s hurt, I’m not leaving it to die. Let’s take it with us,” she suggested.

“I don’t know, what if its mother is nearby? We shouldn’t move it,” I was always hesitant to tamper with nature.

“And what if this is the only one left? I’ll take the risk.” Apparently she didn’t need my approval.

Erin: The last key went into the lock with ease. I turned it slowly. My hand started to shake as I heard the click. Finally, I was going to see what was in the mystery room. With the slightest push, the door creaked open at a crawling pace. My first reaction was that it was empty. But then I saw it. Right in the center of the wood floor. A pizza with a few pieces eaten. It looked fresh.

What’s that?

  1. Jade reaches the spot source first. The inky tar thickens in murky ropes and puddles as he walks through the foliage. There’s a archway made of the stuff, seemingly hardened.
    But he doesn’t trust it.
“Ghost!” He calls back, as quietly as he can.
“Right behind you,” he hears his brother say.
Jade nods, then steps forward. Once he’s under the archway, it starts closing on him. He rolls forward, but is separated by his team by a solid wall of tar and leaves. He looks around, taking out one of his weapons. He sees the source, which most of the tar travel to. The wall encloses a small yard of blackness, with an old outhouse that’s rotting with disrepair. There is thick ink crawling over it, through cracks and over broken stones around it.
‘Gross,’ Jade notes. He sees trails of the ink going into one of the doors. “Ghost!” He calls.
“I can’t get in!” Night Ghost calls back. “I’m going to jump it!”
“No!” Jade yells, holding a hand out that the others can’t see, “It might trap you. Stay put. I’ll stop this.”
“You can’t do this alone, Jade!” Animalia yells, “Starry will be here soon! He can get us through. Just wait!”
Jade looks at the ink as it starts to move, and it swirls together. It rips up grass and dirt, bringing different branches or stray trash with in the mess. ‘He can’t get here in time.’
He takes out one of his brass knuckles, still holding the short sword in his other hand, waiting for the figure to leave the building.
