Day 301 of 365 Days of Writing Prompts: Write about a light shining in the darkness.
Erin: The sole star in the sky lit up my night.
Shannon: I didn’t want to leave the bathroom stall. They were supposed to be my friends. How could they humiliate me like that?
There was a knock on the door. “Hey Sam I saw what happened, and forget them. They’re jerks, you shouldn’t feel bad because they freaked out on you,” Megan got louder as she got more upset by the situation.
“They’re my only friends,” I wiped the tears from my eyes.
She made a fake gagging sound, “They are not your friends. And if you could promise you’ll never call them that again, then I’m your friend. You don’t have to put up with them.”
Light up the dark.

Nikki is a smart girl. She catches on quick. So it was no surprise to Carina when her niece was downcast after a few days. Carina found her crying one morning as she came to the kitchen for breakfast.
“Daddy’s not coming back, is he?”
Carina turns off the stove and squats in front of the little girl. “Nikki-”
“Daddy doesn’t want me.” Nikki drags her long sleeve over her eyes.
“No, Nikki, that’s not why,” Carina tries.
“So it’s true?” Nikki asks, “Daddy isn’t coming back?”
“…He thinks you can have a better life here, with me.”
“Why?”
“I’m sure you’ll under-” Carina stops and sighs, shaking her head at herself. She faces Nikki again, wiping away a few tears, “Nikki…” The little girl’s lip is sticking out in a pout and Carina doesn’t have it in her to make her more sad. “You have another daddy, remember?”
Nikki nods, “But he’s in Heaven.”
“No, Nikki. He’s right here. He’s always with us. In your heart,” Carina puts a hand over Nikki’s heart. “I know this will be hard. But, He will show you what you should do each day, but you have to let Him.”
Nikki puts a hand over the adult’s hand. She then looks at her aunt.
“He’s your light in the darkness. He may only show you the next footsteps in front of you, but trust that He can see the whole path.”
“…What if I am led to a cliff?” Nikki asks.
Carina smiles wide, “That means you are meant to fly.”
