Writing Prompt: Day 308

308Day 308 of 365 Days of Writing Prompts: Describe your character’s living situation.

Shannon: After our parents died in the accident we were sent off to live with our aunt and her family. I knew it would be different going from a three bedroom to mansion, but I didn’t expect to hate it. I thought it would be nice. I’d have my own bedroom, and basically anything I wanted. I should have been happy but it didn’t feel like home. Dinners were proper, cooked by a chef, and placed on top of intricate table decorations. There was a private theater for an unforgettable movie experience. Even a private pool, and a hot tub. It was fun for the first month, but the affect soon faded. I started missing the imperfections of the past. I missed eating dinners on the couch as we all found something to laugh about. I missed watching movies as a family on our old, tiny TV screen. I missed sharing a bedroom and having to share pool space with strangers. It’s strange, but life has been duller since I got here.

Erin: She is homeless in a sense. She is not poor though. She is rich in experiences and connections. She has a network of friends across the country and she hops from home to home. She experiences what she wants to and then searches for more. Her relationships just kept compounding and doing what she loved payed off. People lived to read her stories and she lived off of the revenue from her blog. To her she had complete freedom in that fact.

What’s home like for your character?

Erin: Donald Duck

Shannon: Eleven

Give your favorite character a favorite character.

Writing Prompt: Day 306

306Day 306 of 365 Days of Writing Prompts: Write about a character who is never satisfied.

Shannon: I don’t know why, but I can never get enough. I’m always looking for the next thing that I haven’t acquired yet. I suppose it’s not a good habit. I want to stop and just appreciate what I do have but I don’t know how. I’m always chasing something new, and it feels like I need to.

Erin: He was one of those people who believed he deserved the best. He held that belief to a fault though. He believed he deserved perfect. Perfect to the point no human could live up to his standards. In striving for perfection, he had no one.

I want fabulous.

Writing Prompt: Day 305

305Day 305 of 365 Days of Writing Prompts: Place your character into a story that is not their own.

Erin: “There is something weird about that kid,” Jenifer insisted.

“He’s a little different,” I agreed, but the truth was she was the different one in our world. She didn’t have powers, and we were all hiding them from her. We didn’t know why she was dropped into our world and we didn’t want to risk the consequences of finding out.

Shannon: “Who are you,” the girl with blue hair questioned.

“Raven,” I quickly responded, “I’m new,” I clarified as they all stared.

“Well you better not be expecting a lead role. They’re already taken. If you don’t want to be a background character, you should turn around now,” she warned.

“I don’t mind,” I shook my head. “I just want to be a part of a story again. I miss it,” I shrugged.

We’re not in Kansas anymore.

Writing Prompt: Day 304

304Day 304 of 365 Days of Writing Prompts: What is your character’s Halloween costume?

Shannon: Packman and his kids are the ghosts.

Erin: A classic black cat.

Happy Halloween!

Writing Prompt: Day 303

303.jpgDay 303 of 365 Days of Writing Prompts: Write about a character working in a haunted house.

Erin: My first day working in the haunted house I was too scary. The first person I approached smacked me square across the face. That’s why the day I started was the day I retired.

Shannon: Is it bad that I like freaking people out? I’m quiet so I’ve always been good at sneaking up on people. Seems like the only place it’s accepted is at haunted houses, so I live for this season. I like to see people laugh after they scream, letting me know they enjoy my humor, instead of getting pissed off.

Monster Mash.

Writing Prompt: Day 302

302Day 302 of 365 Days of Writing Prompts: Write about carving pumpkins.

Shannon: It had been a while since I’d picked up my old carving tool kit. When people stopped showing up to our Halloween display, I slowly lost interest in my favorite pastime. What was the point anymore, when I was the only one who would ever enjoy my creations? But as I unzipped the kit, and stared at my worn-out tools, I felt a longing to make one more beautiful mess.

Erin: I love the end results of carving pumpkins and the actual carving of them. The only part I can’t stand is the gutting of the pumpkin. The slime all over my hands and in-between my fingers almost deters me from the act, but I just love those glowing faces.

Pumpkin Art.

Writing Prompt: Day 301

301Day 301 of 365 Days of Writing Prompts: Write about a light shining in the darkness.

Erin: The sole star in the sky lit up my night.

Shannon: I didn’t want to leave the bathroom stall. They were supposed to be my friends. How could they humiliate me like that?

There was a knock on the door. “Hey Sam I saw what happened, and forget them. They’re jerks, you shouldn’t feel bad because they freaked out on you,” Megan got louder as she got more upset by the situation.

“They’re my only friends,” I wiped the tears from my eyes.

She made a fake gagging sound, “They are not your friends. And if you could promise you’ll never call them that again, then I’m your friend. You don’t have to put up with them.”

Light up the dark.

Writing Prompt: Day 300

300Day 300 of 365 Days of Writing Prompts: Write a letter to your character.

Shannon:

Dear Character,

I know it seems like I’m screwing you over right now, but I promise I have a plan. You just can’t see it right now, but you will.

Erin:

Dear Character,

I’m sorry, but I don’t have time for you.

What would you say to your character?

Writing Prompt: Day 299

299Day 299 of 365 Days of Writing Prompts: What’s your character’s favorite use for pumpkins?
